More images have just come out from my time in Singapore in January. I was really blessed to shoot with some of Singapore’s most lauded beauties, including former Miss Singapore’s Rachel Kum and Colleen Francisca for local designer Vikas Dayal. Many of the other women were high profile TV hosts and entrepreneurs that I have known for some time like Angelique Teo and Lisa Crosswhite.

Vikas’ latest collection Atthena contains a series of gorgeous red carpet gowns and showstopper cocktail dresses all with Vikas’ trademark embellishment.

I loved this butter yellow dress and the styling was amazing also.

Here are some behind-the-scenes images of the shoot which was great fun:

Special thanks to Alycia, my publicist from Fly Entertainment for being there.

So most of you know that I recently flew to Singapore and did a few shoots. I wanted to share the latest press which came out.

The shoot was done on one of my favourite places in Singapore, the new Henderson Waves bridge and tree top walk. An absolute must-see and experience when in Singapore. I love it because it’s one of few free things you can do there.

I adore how high fashion the images are, not an easy feat for a creative team when I look like a manga! I often get styled like a doll or very commercial, so this is amazing  to even see myself in a different light.

For my top tips on making the most of your assets in pictures check out this post.

You can read the full article here where I dish on love, life, career and my mother.

I want to thank the team from Gnossem for featuring me, particularly the amazing Eleonora Graziani for styling me so well. Photography by Tomas Kibsgaard Larsen. Thankyou to Gnossem founder Lisa Crosswhite for getting in touch for the shoot. Thanks also to Gabi Bame Makeup Singapore.  Alycia at my publicist at Fly Entertainment.

In Australia you can book me at Chadwick Models Perth.

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you would have seen that I have been shooting in Singapore like a crazy woman. Many of you may also know I am only 5″1 and 30, this makes it imperative to have some cheat items which make you look taller, thinner and younger. You can apply some of these tips to your social media pictures too.

One I learnt from a photographer on this trip is to stand legs ajar and instead of pushing your butt outwards (like they tell you in beauty pageants), for a more high fashion look, press you pelvis up and under. Here’s a good example:

You can see how flat it makes my tummy look here:

Another must-have are stick on chicken fillets in lightweight foam. Not the silicon ones. Mine are from La Senza. To give cleavage if you’re like me and have none!

As for your face, if you’re wanting to look “high fashion” raise your chin:

To look sexy or youthful, chin down works fine!

To make you look taller, the photographer may well shoot you from below. Help the guy out by making as many “s” shapes as you can by bending your leg which faces closest to the camera:

If you are conscious about your arms, have them out and not pressed against you (as below):

Here are some other cool behind-the-scenes shots to show you what goes on:

Every woman should also have a high pair of comfortable and good quality nude shoes (you can see here I use them a lot). You may also need a high pair of black heels. Since getting older, I also use a pair of Spanx skinny britches when shooting evening wear.

I also recommend always bringing your heels in a bag while wearing your flats. You should also have some basic studs in your ears (if your ears are pierced). In the case of the shoot above, few accessories were provided so my crystal studs just made me looked a bit more finished.

I must thank my Singaporean management Fly Entertainment, in particular my publicist Alycia for assisting on these shoots. To my mentor Joey Mead King, hair and make-up artist Greg Oh  and Gnossem, Vikas Dayal and WTF Singapore.

The Sewing Parlour at reMADE DXB is run by one of my good girlfriends in Dubai Theresa Tsui. This is us together in Ok! Middle East a couple of years ago:

Theresa is Singaporean by heritage like me, she studied fashion design and then embarked on a journey of craft discovery with her business partner Paula Horsfall, when she opened Dubai-based sewing parlour at reMADE DXB. She and I (while I was still in Dubai) were champions of DIY in the city of luxury.

ReMade DXB is a sewing parlour come purveyor of handmade treasures with a vintage vibe. Tucked away in Al Quoz, it’s one of the city’s greatest new secrets. It offers Dubai ladies a taste of calm amongst the hyperactive glamour and a place to connect with like-minded creatives.

On my last trip to Dubai, I visited the parlour and sat down for a cup of tea with Theresa. Look how amazing the space is she has created:

Theresa has very generously given me 1 of reMADE’s super popular Sewing Machine Driving License workshops (valued at AED 175) to give away to a lucky blog fan in the UAE.

All you have to do to win is:

1) Like reMADE DXB on Facebook.

2) Follow this blog, www.DIYnamicstyle.com Instagram:

3) When you’re done, leave your name and email address in the “comments” section below.

You must be based in the UAE to compete in this contest. Winner will be drawn at 8pm (Australian Western Standard Time) on April 28th.

Good Luck!

I have often talked about my apartment and if you look at the DIY Archive there are loads of Decor DIYs. I cannot thank Ahlan! enough for this lovely feature, really sharing my DIY approach to fashion. It’s in the issue on stands now.

In the feature are these DIY projects:

DIY Meadham Kirchoff Inspired “Yes” Tshirt

DIY PVC Envelope Clutch

DIY Vintage Photo Frame Wall

DIY Faux Book Shelf Storage

It’s been ages between posts it feels! I have so many great DIY ideas that are still to come but now I wanted to celebrate some success for the site:

Last week Cheapnchic.net came out in the Style section of www.Huffingtonpost.com which is one of the most frequented sites in the world.

You can read the full story here.

And then today in local news here in the UAE, the site got some love in a feature on home made beauty products in the 7 Days UAE. You can read the article here.

For all my DIY beauty fixes you can check out the DIY Archive.

This is one of the fastest dream to reality moments I have had. When I launched this blog in July 2012, I thought how great it would be to combine my broadcasting career with my crafting one! Within months I had spoken to the producers of MyDubaiMyCity.com and it came to fruition.

The show teaser is up now for you to watch but the full episodes begin on September 2nd 7:00am GST time.

“DIY with Simone Heng” is finally here! 12 episodes of completely original projects not yet seen on this blog! Enjoy!

Since this blog started 1 year ago, visits have gone up 491%. We’ve given away huge prizes, built a DIY directory of all the stores in Satwa, run workshops and been featured on the cover of magazines. It’s been just amazing.

I’d like to thank my interns Poroma and George for helping me. Many thanks also to all the professional photographers who have partnered with me on the site’s shoots. Most all I am proud of the growth of the DIY Archive. I really hope that each DIY gets better and more accessible.

Looking forward Cheapnchic.net is going to be involved in its own online TV series with MyDubaiMyCity.com, this will launch August 26th. The videos will also continue on another platform soon to be announced. Contributions with Fustany.com and Brideclubme.com will also continue.

Here’s the interview I did last week on Dubai Eye 104.8 radio about the influence of Cheapnchic.net on the world’s most luxurious city:

It’s a loom knitting machine which will allow you to make some of the cool projects I’ve created on the site. You’ll also get a Simone Heng curated Glambox.

To win all you have to do is:

1) Share the link to this competition on your Twitter and Facebook walls.

2) Follow Cheapnchic.net on Facebook

3) Follow Cheapnchic.net on Twitter

Once you’ve done all those steps, simply place your email in the comment section below. Competition closes on July 27th 2013. You must live in the UAE to be eligble to win.
