So this accessory has been in and out of press since the Olsen twins wore them in 2009. Maison Michel is an accessory brand owned by CHANEL. The head gear is just stunning and I have coveted these ears forever.
There are loads of DIY tutorials out there for these ears but I made my own using only what I already had already in my house. I don’t normally like to make things made before by others but I really wanted to wear these out to the Vogue Cafe and Jimmy Choo events that evening.
You will need: Black lace, wire, black nail polish, black needle and thread, thick black headband, black ribbon (2 cm in width), fabric scissors, fabric glue.
Begin by creating 2 tear-shaped wire frames for the ears.
After that get the black ribbon and fabric glue and wind it around the wire, gluing as you go, this will conceal the wire.
Repeat this process for both of the ears.
Then place the ears on a square of lace:
Using the needle and thread, stitch the lace to the ribbon around the ears. Once the ear is securely attached to the ear, use the fabric scissors to cut around the ear with a 1cm excess, cut this irregularly to look almost messy.
From there attach the ears to the headband by wrapping the wire through the holes in the lace, reinforce by using needle and thread to sew the ears to the headband.
From here you’ll have the bunny ears. I would normally conceal the messy wire ends with black ribbon but as I was in a rush to wear the ears on the evening, I simply used black nail polish to conceal the silver wire.
There you go! I wore these babies out to the launch of Vogue Cafe in Dubai Mall and the Jimmy Choo SS 13 collection preview. No one was the wiser that my ears were DIY and Bianca Balti, Karolina Kurkova and Didier Drogba were at the party!
Thankyou to CHIC for the dress I am wearing and Kurt Geiger for the shoes.
Happy DIY-ing guys!
